No need to worry about the red spread

The red film that has been spotted on the lake water by Hewlett Park isn't fish-killing red algae, according to the city's public information officer, Bethany Warner. The city checked with the Brazos River Authority, she said, and was told that it is likely Azolla, a harmless floating aquatic fern that turns red under stresses such as temperature swings.
