GHS culinary department receives equipment grant
The Fort Worth Food + Wine Foundation has donated a grant worth $5,000 in equipment to the Gran-bury High School culinary program.
The grant was made Monday morning. The equipment includes mixers, slicers, stock pots, saute pans and other kitchen items, according to a press release from GISD.
The program also received Chromebooks and a television for an enhanced classroom experience.
This is the third year the GHS culinary program has received a donation grant from the foundation, according to culinary teacher Brianne Langdon.
Fort Worth Food + Wine is a nonprofit organization that raises funds for a myriad of needs within the culinary community. It has awarded over $150,000 in grants and scholarships to help students from the greater Fort Worth area.
Students in the culinary program at GHS, part of the overarching Career and Technological Education department, participate in several hands-on learning activities throughout the year and run their own restaurant, known as The Galley, which is open for lunch on Thursdays.
In 2018-19, The Galley participated in 62 events and served over 6,000 customers.
