Lady Pirates blow out Seguin

Saturday, April 13, 2019

The Granbury Lady Pirates rolled to a 17-1 win at Arlington Seguin in four innings Tuesday.

Brianna Venable went 3-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. She launched a two-run home run to left field in the first inning.

From her leadoff spot in the order, Alison Cooper went 2-2 with four RBI and three runs scored. Taryn Matthews also scored three times and drew three walks. Lani Hickey was 2-3 with three RBI, and Gracie Shelton went 1-2 with three runs scored.

Kelby Been allowed one hit and one earned run in her four innings of work in the circle. She struck out six and walked one, and needed just 45 pitches.

With two games left on the schedule after Tuesday, the Lady Pirates were 10-2 in District 5-5A. Granbury could win a co-district championship if Mansfield Legacy (11-1) were to lose one of its final games, but because Legacy swept the Lady Pirates in the regular season, Legacy would earn the first playoff seed.

Granbury hosted Everman Friday, and will finish its season at Burleson Tuesday at 6 p.m.
