Lady Rattler season ends in first round
The Tolar Lady Rattler volleyball season ended in a five-set loss to No. 24 Bowie in the UIL Class 3A bi-district round.
Tolar lost 3-2 (25-16, 17-25, 25-17, 24-26, 15-12) and finished its season with a record of 28-14.
The Lady Rattlers played teams tough all season. Tolar finished its non-district slate with a record of 21-6, but had to fight against state Top 10 teams like Brock and Peaster once District 7-3A play rolled around.
Tolar finished with a district record of 7-7 after sweeping Paradise on the road to secure a playoff bid in the last game of the season.
The Lady Rattlers relied on a team philosophy they termed “NASA,” which stands for “Nobody Achieves Success Alone.” They road that philosophy to wins over Class 5A teams like Everman and Carter-Riverside.
“We wanted it to be something that we lived by while we played,” senior Avery Mabery said earlier this year. “We’ve been family to each other. We all achieve success together, and we want everyone to be selfless.”
Tolar had a strong group of five seniors – Mabery, Grace Jones, Aubrie Sibley, Avery McLain and Alicia Hamm – that acted as leaders all year long.
“We wouldn’t be here, we wouldn’t be doing what we’re doing without those seniors and that experience,” Tolar head coach Misty Rhodes said before the district season began.
Tolar will return Justyce Vanlandingham, Emma Carroll and Haylee Burt next season.
